So long I've been here
now and before
vines grow heavier in my hands
to wade the waters
a murky shore
swathed in the thickets
in the sins I steep my bones
There's a comfort
in sinking slow
familiar fen land
overflows, and I know it
for all I've hunted
I've stripped and thrown
I still wear every hide, buried inside my wardrobe
but to stay here, is to deepen the hole
days spent denying, what you have sown, in poison soil
say to yourself, you'll find another way
yeah
'cause it's not where you've been
in the end
Oh how I've waited, to be reborn
in slough I slumber, swamp to lullaby me
And all the love I, chose to ignore
was not left infantile, sickness has overgrown
but to stay here, is to deepen the hole
days spent denying, what you have sown, in poison soil
say to yourself, you'll find another way
yeah
'cause it's not where you've been
but to stay here, is to deepen the hole
Days spent denying, what you have sown, in poison soil
say to yourself, you'll find another way
yeah
I'm sad to see this era of Beastmaker close out but this is a phenomenal way to do! Black Butterfly might be the best thing they've ever done. dianonhead
So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. Just a different side in some ways, all of which are good. playfulpooka

Fantastic album from front to back! Incredibly catchy, fuzzy riffs, great songwriting and powerful lyricism.
A classic of modern heavy psych / stoner music! Brett
